About Dan

A stronger voice for the 2nd Essex.

After 38 years in a rewarding law practice, Dan Kelly is running for State Representative because the six towns of the 2nd Essex deserve respect, responsiveness, and accountability — not a rubber stamp.

Meet Dan

A life on the North Shore.

I live on Town Hill in Ipswich, where the American Revolution began with the revolt of 1687.

My most vivid memories of childhood were in the communities of the 2nd Essex District — accompanying my grandparents to their antique store at Todd Farm, walking the beaches, and searching for the perfect fried clam (Ipswich’s White Cap on High Street).

For over 35 years, I was a practicing lawyer assisting individuals, nonprofits, government agencies, universities, and businesses of all sizes in navigating the complex world of government contracts and grants. During my practice, I was a proud member and volunteer in two important industry associations — the National Contract Management Association (NCMA) and the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) — where I focused on securing research grants for entrepreneurs and helping the veteran community. I also served as a volunteer for Veterans Legal Services, holding office hours at the Bedford VA to assist indigent veterans in resolving their legal problems.

In addition to my legal career, I’ve had the privilege of appearing on many stages across the North Shore and southern New Hampshire as an actor. You might have seen me as Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol at the Rochester Opera House last Christmas. I am a strong supporter of the arts and proudly served on the Ipswich Cultural Council.

When I retired in 2022, my wife Lori and I moved to Ipswich and never plan on leaving — we already have our cemetery plots at Southside Cemetery. I hope to give back to the communities of the 2nd Essex through a life of community service.
